The BEST WESTERN Moorings Hotel was originally was built as a family home during the 1880’s by Archibald Colville son of David Colville Snr., founder of Colville Iron and Steel Works Co.

The Census of 1891 shows the house was occupied by Archibald, wife Jeannie and their two children as well as the live-in servants. The house was constructed to a palatial standard, with many external stone carvings, elegant windows, beautiful oak panelling and staircases, delightful cornices and brass light fittings. Sadly some of these features have been lost in the interest of progress!

From 1925 to 1971 the house was owned by the Ormiston family. Thomas Ormiston was the local MP from 1931-1935. His grand daughter, Linda Ormiston, is now an internationally renowned Opera Star.

In 1971 the house was converted to be the local Boys Brigade Headquarters and subsequently became a hotel in 1987. The current owner has sympathetically upgraded and extended the building to provide a chic modern hotel in stylish surroundings.

Good hotels have all the essentials- convenient location, easy access, comfortable rooms, parking,
en-suite facilities, Bar / Restaurant and efficient service. But the BEST WESTERN Moorings has a certain je ne sais quoi that makes the stay here truly memorable.

The hotels new look interior is one off understated, timeless refinement. But what makes this BEST WESTERN Hotel stand head and shoulders above the rest is its family friendly atmosphere and its attention to detail. The surroundings are undeniably chic but the vibe is unpretentious, verging on homely. All rooms are en-suite, with everything you would expect from a hotel of this calibre.

Located on the outskirts of Motherwell, only minutes away from 2 major motorways - the North/South M74 and East/West M8 - the 30 room hotel caters for tourist and business guest with equal ease and efficiency. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and Ayrshire are within easy reach, while near by attractions like Strathclyde Park, New Lanark, Clyde Valley and Chatelherault Country Park provide a scenic backdrop that attracts tourists from around the world.

Its rooms may be from the 19th Century, but the BEST WESTERN Moorings hotel now more than reaches the expectations of the 21st Century.
